bonjour vous pouvez m'aider s'il vous plaît ☺️ menu Looking for good deals? Barème sur 20 points Written comprehension: “We communicate with our clothes” (10 points) Read what this art dealer, former artist, author and art consultant had to say when answering the question “What do you wear to work?” on Quora.com.
Clothes are a form of communication, and I own an art gallery that sells moderately upscale art (up to $100,000 – most in the 15-30K range). So I wear dresses in the summer; often suits in the winter, and high heels pretty much every day, though I can get away with open toes and fairly dramatic styles because I'm the owner – and after all, it's ART!!
Oh and I also have 30 pairs of eyeglasses that I change to match the outfits… This is my addiction, and my glasses don't cause me to get fat, fall down or say stupid things…
But seriously, I dress more formally than most [people] in Santa Fe (New Mexico), because I want people who come in to get cues that contribute to the following messages, that I also promote in other ways throughout the gallery:
They can probably trust the aesthetic quality of the art, because I have good taste. They will likely be treated professionally in their dealings with the gallery, because I am professionally dressed. The gallery is probably a successful one, and they can have confidence in it and not fear it being a fly-by-night operation [not permanent; transitory], because I wear fairly expensive clothes. These tiny things seem silly to some people, but human beings are basically animals, built to stop and go based on subtle little intuitive responses to congruent and incongruent indicators that they continually perceive, mostly unconsciously.
A gallery owner A gallery owner Answer the questions with sentences written in French.
Based on this phrase: “up to $100,000 – most in the 15-30K range”, what could “upscale art” mean?
The gallery owner says she owns 30 pairs of eyeglasses that she changes to match the outfits. She says: “This is my addiction.” Why does she use the word “addiction”? Can you explain?
Why does she “dress more formally than most”? What “message” does she want to send to her customers?
She says she is not “a fly-by-night operation”. How does she show this to customers?
