Sagot :
I’m going to talk about the idea of progress. First of all, I would like to give a definition of what’s the progress: it’s the idea that the world and the society can evolve in terms of science, modernization, technology or living conditions. It’s generally seen as an improvement. Today, I’m going to focus on the progress in terms of science, because I do (le “do” renforce ce que tu dis) think that it is the most important improvement. But what are the advantages and inconveniences of scientific progress?
On the one hand, I will talk about the advantages of scientific progress (tu te répètes, ça risque de lasser ton publique, dis plutôt juste, on the one hand, let’s talk about the advantages). Nowadays, scientific progress allows the improvement of life condition and the keeping of alive sufferers (que veux tu dire?). The scientists find medical treatments (il ne trouve pas qu’un seul traitement!) which slow down or cure diseases. Science can replace limbs and help with deficiencies. (where have you seen it?) We have seen on a Time Magazine cover a South-African athlete Oscar Pistorius. His handicap wasn’t induce by any accident but he had a genetic deformation. Special prosthetics was made for him for replacing his missing limbs. The running blades were engineered by an American prosthetist and Paralympic sprinter.
The scientific progress aims at extending life expectancy. We have seen on another (le an est inutile et faux) Time Magazine cover a baby who could live up to 142 years. By having (ou if you have) a long life, you will be able to experience more things in your life, have more time to see the world, discover new things, and relate to new people. You will get to know your great-great-great-great grandchildren (peut-être un peu abuse non xD). But living for a long amount of time can also have inconveniences.
On the other hand, I will speak about the inconveniences of scientific progress (tu peux juste dire Indeed, pas besoin de toujours répéter de quoi tu parles!). To come back to the baby’s, maybe would we get bored of such a long life? It would be acceptable (there would be no problems) if we can remain fit and young. (attention il n’y a pas de liason entre tes deux phrases!) And only rich people would be allowed to last long whereas the poor ones, and mainly (soit tu enleves mainly soit tu ajoute à la place de la virgule, that is to say) the people from the Third World would not benefit from such advances. Science tends to go too far in some experiments that imply continual evolutions: the cloning of human beings, genetically modified organisms and doesn’t, in most of the cases, know where to stop.
To conclude, even if science can replace limbs and help with deficiencies, it cannot change who you are deep down and I think that the medical progress is very important because there are a lot of severe genetic diseases. But we must be very careful and set up limits and rules. (les phrases de ta conclusion sont justes mais ne sont pas très poussés, n’oublie pas, c’est la dernière impression que tu vas laisser à ton jury!)
