bonjour !
I think this short text has been written a long time ago when the suffragettes began to fight to get the right to vote.
Mrs Bruce is one of those women who accepted to stay home and be a housewife. She wasn't ready for a change in her daily life. Men at work and doing politics and women at home. She had been educated this way . But years after years, some strong minded women asked for more and more equal rights as men. They first asked to vote, then to work, they're still fighting to get the same salary as men when they have as much responsabilty and so on .
My opinion is that we won't never be equal , because we are just different. That doesn't mean that women should be treated in a different way. If they have the same, exactly the same job as a man, they should be paid the same. Why are they paid lower ?? Because they have children or might have some and for the enterprises, it has become an handicap ! But when they asked for being responsible of their bodies (abortion debate), men were shocked, against that law . It's a woman who imposed this law.
We have different skills in some fields. But we are complementary.
People have to be more open minded (avoir l'esprit plus ouvert). Men AND women ! When they want their car to be repaired they won't trust a female mechanics as much as a male.
Women have managed to abolish some prejudices and they are present in many fields but there are still a lot to do with people mentalities.
As for the house chores, it's changing but very , too slowly. When you look at some statitics, women are working almost twice more than men. At the end of their working day remains the house work.
I hope that our generation will be more conscious of this.
je suis un garçon mais je me suis mis dans la "peau" d'une femme et c'est ce que je pense...
J'espère t'avoir aidée un peu
