Since the end of the Franco regime, a major renewal of the Spanish historiography has been a concomitant period of strong mobilization for what the Spanish called the recovery of historical memory. During the said period of democratic transition, the memory of the civil war had haunted the political and parliamentary debate. This reflected the trauma of civil war and violence, but also the fact that Franco's memorial policy and management history, including civil war the Franco regime was maintained and exacerbated a divided memory.
