The narrator is preparing for a her arranged marriage, ordered by her strict Indian parents and family. Her other brings her to a room to be inspected by a bridegroom. They are outraged when they hear that she refuses to be inspected. However, she is then persuaded to give in. The narrator's hair is brushed and is given jewelry of all sorts. She tells herself that she hates it. She then look at the mirror and mentions that she resembles a doll, puppeteered by her parents.
