Sagot :
Bonjour,
Voila
I am going to talk about the notion of myth and heroes. First
of all i would like to give a quick definition of that notion. A hero is a
person admired for his achievements, noble qualities and great courage. They
can be fictional like Superman, Batman and others…But here, we shall be
interested at hero we studied in class, the cowboy. And the myth is a story
about heroes, it can be a popular belief or a tradition or a false notion.
In class, we studied the representation of the
cowboy. We have seen what the original cowboy and cowboy imagined by modern
man. It is difficult to define the cowboy because there is no single type of
cowboy. There are several interpretations of the cowboy.
What have the different representations of the
cowboy?
In the 20th century, we are presented with a
cowboy as a simple farmer raising horses. Through art, it only shows good
pictures of the cowboy. In class we saw two paintings, The Slick Ear, Charles
Marion Russell (1914); on this one we see the brutality, violence and power of
the cowboy. It gives the impression of power and bravery even in difficult
situations. But this is not real life cowboy because this situation rarely
happens. The artist chose this to show a cowboy as a strong and heroic man. The
second painting we saw was The Roping, William Robinson Leigh (1914). In this
painting, the artist depicts a young cowboy with a good physical shape and that
their work appears agitated and technique. And the table it looks like the
cowboy is dangerous because he carries a gun. There is also a romantic aspect
of the cowboy as the artist chose the photograph which shows an impressive
cowboy other side with his hand turning a rope.
Today cowboy is completely disfigured. Everyone
interpreted as he wants for purposes political and others. The theatre also
interprets it in his own way. The notion of myth is much set in advance. The
entry appears much like a cowboy hero thanks to cinema that can give him the
image he wants. At the end of the 20th century, the authors try to show another
image of the cowboy, as in the text Brokeback Mountain by Annie Proulx (1997).
You can see cowboys, each Married with children, but they are homosexual. This
picture could not show before. The cowboy was stereotyped to society a cowboy
is a strong man with bravery, but finally it is like any man.
Finally, the cowboy never really concrete picture.
In the early 20th century, artists give image of a hero. The story of the
cowboy is a myth and will remain a myth because we do not really know what a
true cowboy, each generation shown as he wishes. At the end of the 20th century
was a cowboy completely modernized and unveiled so you do not know which to
believe because everything remains both myths.
