Bonjour, je passe bientot mon oral d'anglais et j'aimerai si possible que quelqu'un me corrige ma synthèse sur la notion espaces et échanges, la voici:
So i'm going to talk about spaces and exchanges. This notion allow us to wonder about the differents spaces that exist in the world, the relationships between those space. The aspect of this notion that I choosed is emigration and more specifically : What drives people to leave their country to go and live in another country? I'm going to expose differents reasons that drives people to leave their country, first through the american dream, and then through the considering of a gap year.

I. The American Dream
At school, we saw a video about Ellis Island. Ellis Island is the symbol of the American Dream. During the immigration wave in from the beginning of the 19th century to the 50s, more than 12 millions immigrants arrived there. This small island represented in reality their whole future: it's the place were they will, or not, enter the continent. On the ship, they were 1st class passenger, and the others. The first class passengers were travelling in suitable conditions. They had a place to sleep, they could wash themselves etc, but it was very expensive.. the second class passengers didn't even had a place to sleep and they were travelling in very hard conditions, and they often developed diseases. Because of that, the american autorities set up conditions of acceptability. Each migrant had to undergo medical and mental examination. After that, they were the administration side. They had to say why they wanted to enter on the continent, and justify if they had enough money to continue the journey to their final destination.
But approximately one on six immigrants was kept on the island for one of those reasons... Those conditions of admission broke some families for some, and broke a dream for others... that's why ellis island was nicknamed “the isle of tears”.
Nowadays, Ellis Island contains the national museum of american immigration and it stands as a monument to the words inscribed on the pedestral of the statue of liberty. People can also redraw their ancestor from the data kept from Ellis island.

II. Gap year
Gap year is a period of time taken by a student to travel or work, often after high school or before starting graduate school, as a break from formal education.
We saw a video and more precisly a draw my life for the oral comprehension that is named “why you should be considering a gap year?”. This video invited us to consider a gap year, by exposing the advantages of a gap year. After thigh school, students are often thinking about what to do with their lives, pondering the different options, and deciding what career will suit us the best. The next step will probably naturally by continue our studies to graduate and work as our dreams. But Gap year can be another option to explore the meaning of the life. Many of the people that have decided to take a gap year describe it as a life-changing event. It can also help you to choose the trajectory of your life and what you really want for the future. Moreover, some educational psychologists have found that student that have completed a gap year have gained some crucial life skills and experiences. That's the most important advantage of a gap year that mention this video.
Naturally, this video is an advertising for the gap year, so it didn't even mention one drawback of a gap year, but they do exist.
When you are considering a gap year, you don't go to school for a year. Even if that can be enriching culturally or socially, it can be very hard to go back to school after one year without because School has a rhythm that's hard to take. Moreover, living in a foreign country for a year doesn't have just advantages: we can be very homesick because we're far away from our family and friends, and sometimes the cultur are different from this of our country. So we can meet difficulties adapting ourselves to this new way of life but we will have to support it for a year.
That's why personally, I'll never take a gap year, because I don't want to be lost at my return in my country, and meet difficulties for the pursuit of my studies.

To answer the question, we can say that the motivation for the people to leave thei country are very different. One side, we have the people that leave their country not because they really want it, but because it's a condition for them to have a better life. This problem still exist nowadays, for example in the country which are at war like Syria. Another side, people can decided to leave their country because they want to discover new cultures or new ways of life or more to improve a new language.
