Steve Fossett is a wealthy American adventurer, born April 22, 1944 in Jackson, Tennessee. Disappeared on September 3, 2007 in the Nevada desert, he was officially declared dead on February 15, 2008 by the Chicago Estates Court.
Fossett, who made his fortune in the financial services, became famous thanks to his five rounds of the world without stop: solitary in balloon, in boat, and alone in plane. Fossett has set 116 records in five different disciplines, 60 of which are still valid.
Fossett grew up in Garden Grove California. In 1966, he graduated from Stanford, and in 1968 he received his MBA from the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he is a member of the supervisory board. Fossett then became a commodities dealer in the Chicago market, creating his own successful Marathon Securities company.
In 1985, he made a swim across the English Channel in 22 hours. (which was one of his first accomplishments )
The adventurer Steve Fossett went missing on Monday, September 3, 2007, announcement made by officials of American civil aviation. The 63-year-old was last seen off the private runway of a Nevada ranch flying his single-engine Citabria Super Decathlon. Initially, it was announced that he was on a reconnaissance flight to identify training areas to break the speed record on board a land vehicle. Finally, it seems that he flew that time only for his pleasure.
