In the end, I did not have much trouble communicating with people. What I liked most was discovering new things, meeting new people, and learning how to approach them using a language different than my own.
On the other hand, I must admit that I disliked the logbook experience.
To put it in a nutshell (= pour résumer), these trips (si c'est au pluriel, c'est bon / si c'est au singulier, c'est "this trip") taught me a lot of new skills. They ("it" au singulier) allowed for a ton of new experiences and events to happen.
Most of all, I was able to better evaluate the progress I made on my language course.
