Lord Henry
Wotton is in the workshop of his friend, painter Basil Hallward, who is doing a
portrait. Lord Henry finds this very successful picture and Basil tells him
that it is because he has put a lot of his personality in his work. It is so
personal that he refuses to show it to the public. They also speak of the
picture’s model, this is a young man named Dorian Gray. The painter has a
exceptional relationship with him and he thinks that it is thanks to this that
its works are of good quality.


Then Dorian
Gray was entered into the House of the painter. Lord Henry made the
acquaintance of Dorian Gray and began a discussion with him while he serves as
model for the painter. Henry was fascinated by the young man, by its beauty,
but especially by its youth.  Basil Hallward finished the portrait of Dorian Gray.  This last
admire the portrait but feels so sad because his portrait is not going to age
so that it will change physical appearance.


Dorian's wish
is that the array should grow old in his place. Dorian
was living in an unhappy family. Her mother was away with a soldier and the
father of the woman was arranged so that the father of Dorian was dead.
sometime after, the mother of  Dorian is
dead then left only Dorian. Lord Henry is increasingly fascinated by Dorian as
he finds this very brave young man.

Some months
later, Dorian Announces has Henry that he fell in love with young actress fame.
She seduces him and he took the habit to go see her play all the evening of
Shakespeare's plays. She was the actresses the best he has ever seen.  She's called Sybil Vane and decided to marry
him. Lord Henry is delighted to see Dorian to marry and he highly commended. Sibyl
announces his marriage to his mother. Mrs. Vane asks his daughter to be wary
but Sibyl wants to hear anything. Sibyl is ecstatic unlike his mother who is
worried about the intentions of Dorian. His brother also is the opposite of
this marriage but Sibyl hears nothing. Before leaving, the brother of Sibyl,
James, warns his sister will be ready a kill Dorian if his intentions are not
good.


Sometime later,
Dorian wants to present Sibyl to his two friends, Lord Henry and Basil
Hallward. To do this, the two friends headed to the theater where Sibyl played
tonight the part of Romeo and Juliet by Shakespeare.

Sibyl was
playing the role of Juliet. His performance is very bad. The two friends
left Dorian places leaving the humiliated and desperate young man. At the end
of the show, he finds Sibyl and tells him that he left: it was too disappointed
him by his poor performance, he can no longer love him in these conditions.  She had also declared that his career on
stage was completed. After
the announcement of Dorian, Sibyl collapses of sadness. 

The next day,
Dorian wakes up late and think back to the evening of the day before. He
regrets the way it spoke to him. He decides to go find the girl and to
reconcile with her to marry him. Lord Henry arrives at Dorian and tells him
that Sibyl committed suicide. Dorian is
collapsed because he feels guilty. Henry invited him to come out and forget his
dark thoughts and this sad news. Dorian decided despite everything to continue his life

Dorian also
notes that his portrait changes in functions of her acts. So his portrait is
very negative because it is truly the reason for the suicide of Sibyl. Basil
visits Dorian. He tells him that he wishes to expose his portrait. Dorian
criticized his change of opinion on the exhibition of the painting and refuses
to show him. Basil leaves while the young man told him that he would never pose
for him. Dorian
is terrorized at the idea that we can see his picture.  And that someone discovers his terrible past. He
decides to hide the artwork in his attic.
