● The American elections take place every 4 years on the first Tuesday in November.
● American citizen aged 18 or more can vote. But they don't elect the President directly : they vote for electors in the Electoral College and these electors elect the President.
● From January to June of election year, there are Primaries and Caucuses. People who are interested in becoming a party's candidate start their campaign because they need politicians, institutions and influential compagnies to finance and support them.
● After, there are the National conventions. Each party chose one candidate for presidency and his running mate for vice-presidency.
● From August to November, it's the electoral campaign. The candidates travel all over the country to promote their party.
● During the General elections, people vote.
● All of a state's electors must vote for the same candidate. If a candidate wins the majority of the popular vote, this candidate gets all of the state's electors votes in the Electoral College and the other candidate no gets any vote. It's the winner-takes-it-all rule.
● The Electoral College votes in December. Each state have a number of electors in proportion to it's population.
● The President is inaugurated in January and after the Inauguration Day, he lives in the White House in Washington DC.
