"No, you may say that now," replies his mother. "But all your friends who have phones don't act responsibly. They waste so much time, according to their parents."
"What is more," adds his father, "a phone is expensive. We would much rather you read a book."
"Is this about the price? I am prepared to look for a small tutoring job to pay half the price," suggests James.
"Well, that is one thing. But are you willing to let us exercise parental control over this device? Are you willing to spend a maximum of five hours onscreen per day, after homework?"
"Five hours! How about no maximum hour limit? Instead, can I promise to turn it off by ten o'clock, at bedtime?"
