1. Say what this passage depicts; explain what has happened and what the boys have been doing.
The children have been saved. A boat has seen the smoke from the burning island. The children were fighting, there was a mutiny.
2. Focus on the children: how do they appear to the officer? They are like savages. They are barely dressed, hungry, filthy (dirty), hair matted, sun burned, and scared. Some do not even remember their name.
3. Focus on the officer’s questions and on his reactions to Ralph’s answers: what are his feelings?
He is in disbelief - no adults to survey the children, Ralph no longer knows how many other children are on the island. Lastly, two of the children are dead. At first he does not believe, but then he realises that Ralph is telling the truth.
4. What do the children do in the last paragraph? Why, in your opinion?
In fact the children are scared that have had to grow older, be responsible to survive. This children are al young boys some are very young. They are relieved that they have been saved.
