Salut salut les amis quelqu'un peut lire et me dire si il ya des fautes pleasou? Merci d'avance.
Today I’m going to speak about the notion « places and forms of power » Power can be defined as a person, a group or nation which having great influence over others. There are several forms of power like political power (in dictatorship)or economic power. But there are also many places of power like world cities, in other words capitals, or courthouses, or Parliament, institutional symbols of power. I'm going to talk about power of education and be focused on the cost of university. But how become universities instrument of power ? First, I'm going to explain how universities become a business then I will analyse the consequences of this on students.

Education is supposed to give opportunities, knowledge and cultur background. But nowadays, the cost of universities is high. In fact, the tuition fees rise. That's why we can say that universities become a real business : it's a kind of way of buying one's degree. The access to higher education is very expensive, it's a kind of luxury. But this issue concerns in majority GB and the USA, indeed the 1st best university in the USA, Harvard, costs 40 000$ a year. In France education is not totally paid, thing which make its access easier. In concerned countries, universities are elitist : they attracted wealthiest people and divide studients. On an article from The Independant online, a former professor named Lodge explains that the purpose of the universities have totally change since the 1960s : before “there was a tremendous feeling of broading horizons but now he finds that it's like a business, with a huge amount of form-filling.

But this measure have consequences on students, who are victims of it. I turn to my 2nd part. The price to pay is not easy for students. Infact, not everyone can access to higher education. It's like impossible for them to unroll at university. The majority of students make loans to pay the university, or are entitled for a grant. This situation can be tiring for them, they have to do anything to pay back and make ends meet. Pay to get a good education is as a sacrifice.
I can also add that the rise of tuition fees make the system unequal : the wealthier will obtain the more prestigious degrees like law, medicine ou politics. There is inequality between people who have capacties but not enough money and rich people. This last are not embarrassed by the price. It will prevent people with genuinely aspiration from reaching their goal. : having a degree is being jeopardised. That's why students want to make things change, they demonstrate for their future : for instance in 2010 in England, in Westminster, students have faced with the police to reduce tuition fees. It took place in the seat of the Conservative Party. Students have broken cars and put them to fire.

To conclude, we can say that the access at university have changed now all it's about the money : they use students ready to all with it,. All that have impacts on students who must adapt them if they really want their degree. It shows also our consumer society and the fact that all have a price.Universities are therefore an instrument of power. The US-President wants to make things change : in the beginning of January, he made a proposal to reduce problem of income inequality. Even for the instance two States only apply this measure, it remains a social progress. Maybe later higher education will no more be an issue, so we can link tis notion to Idea of progress. I can finish by quoting Nelson Mandela « Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world »
