Sagot :
I am rewriting your narration in English. Please note that I made some changes too.
Dear -----
You have observed that we, coloured black, are treated equally on par with the white people, in the society. Today you are all very lucky to be born in the present times. It was not always like that, you know. Black people were discriminated. I wish to narrate to you an incident that happened in my youth during the 1960s.
At that time life was hard for the black people. Black people were not rich. They had to work at white peoples homes and offices. I was black, and, I'm black! We did not have the same civil right. We could not vote in the elections. We could not eat in the same restaurant as the whites could eat in. Our race was considered as inferior to the white race. We were considered as slaves and could not be masters.
Well, I loved a white man, a perfect man for me, beautiful, and intelligent too. He loved me too. But the problem was that he was white, and at that point of time, whites and blacks could not live together. So, we had to separate. When our family wanted to go on shopping, we had to go to a supermarket designated for blacks.
Coming to the incident, on a fine day during the summer of 1962, I went to work in the restaurant next door. Everything was fine as usual, until a white customer threw his cocktail at my face, because he found it a little unclean and not properly served. I tried to contain my anger and to remain calm, though I was truly enraged ! She had certainly exceeded the limits of decency, so I decided to throw a drink that was on my tray on her face, and then rush to the door to go home.
Fortunately, I had not faced any problem with the law. Now you understand all the hatred that people had at the time against the blacks. Luckily, everything is better now, thanks to the great leaders like Martin Luther King. He fought all his life for peace between the Whites and Blacks. John F Kennedy, the president during 1960s, too struggled to resolve the conflicts between the races.
That was a small episode of my life, of my youth! with lots of love,
your grand----
