Sagot :
Bonjour. :)
- First of all, I would like to give a definition of Places and Forms of power.
In politics and social science, power is the ability to influence people's behaviour. In order to live together, members of a community accept rules, regulations and laws. This helps to create social cohesion but can also lead to conflicts and tensions. Even when authority seems absolute, there are always counter-powers which question it, aimed (je suis pas sûr) at limiting its excesses and resist it.
The topic of my presentation is : the fight against discrimination
and attempts to answer the question : How did some people fight against discrimination ?
To illustrate this I have chosen two documents related to the notion :
The first document is a painting of a little African-American girl
by Norman Rockwell in 1960, the title is "The problem we all live with".
The second document is an article about Rosa Parks,
mother of America's civil rights movement.
In the first document, on the 14th November 1960,
Ruby Bridges was the first African-American child to attend
William Frantz Elementary school, it's a school exclusively for whites in the South (préciser ''South'' de quoi ?).
The painter commemorated her chaotic walk to her first day in the white school.
There was a large crowd of angry people outside. They wanted to kill her.
The treats and rejection had never really ceased even if members of the white community later showed support. Ruby Bridges formed in 1999, the Ruby Bridges Foundation to promote values and she received many awards for her actions.
The second document is an article which inform (ou ''explains'') that Rosa Parks was one of the first people to actively challenge the America's segregation laws. She symbolized the civil rights movement. Everyone hailed (là aussi je pense c'est mieux ''greet'') her courage and strength by her reject (même si ''refusal'' se dit également) to give her seat to a white man on an Alabama bus, in D
ecember 1955. The law required blacks passengers give their seat to the whites passengers. She was convicted of breaking the law and was fined 10$.
Her action sparked (''triggered'' illustre également la notion de déclenchement) the most famous bus boycott that lasted 381 days.
At the same time, legal challenges led to a Supreme Court decision that forced
Montgomery to take off its bus system and cancel other discriminatory
laws throughout America's South. In 1999, the US Senate described Ms Parks as "a living icon for freedom in America".
The documents shows that some people like the painter Norman Rockwell,
Ruby Bridges and Rosa Parks stand for equality between blacks and whites.
They defend the civil rights and the racial integration.
Rosa Parks and Ruby Bridges proved that everyone can breaks unfair laws.
In my view (personaly, from my point of view), I think they had a lot of courage to fight against segragation's laws.
We can also associate these documents to the notion of Idea of Progress
because the idea put forward is a progression of the mindset.
