Regional Council of the Bas-Saint-Laurent environment reveals the brochure "Coping with Climate Change in Bas-Saint-Laurent."
Conducted by the National Coalition of regional environmental councils, this brochure adapted in the 16 regions of Quebec, aims to raise awareness and challenge policy makers on the role they have to play to better manage climate risks.
Today, 97% of scientists in the world agree that there is indeed a global warming and that this phenomenon is the result of human activities. "To mitigate these changes, it is important to keep asking actions to substantially reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG)."
"Moreover, it is now essential to cope with the impacts of these changes that affect or will affect our ecosystems, our health, our infrastructure and our economy."
"We must act now to prepare our communities while reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a global issue, adaptation succession of ownership at the local level," says Yanick Gendreau, Chairman of the environment.
"Thus, decision makers and managers in both the public and private sectors, are directly affected by this reality. Policy makers have a responsibility to use their skills and their capacity for action to concretely respond to the impacts of climate change"
