Sagot :
I’m going to talk about the notion of Myth and heroes. A hero is someone with a lot of qualities who do the good, who change the things (who does a lot of good things and makes a lot of changes....when using the article'the' you refer to a particular subject, you can look up the uses of this article). A hero is a person admired for his achievement. A myth is an ancient story about heroes, gods or magic. We can ask what are the Americans myths and heroes? (you can rephrase this question to: we may ask; are there any American myths and who are their heroes?)
In the first part I am going to talk to you about the myths and on the second about heroes.
First, I studied a song "American Land" by Bruce Springsteen. The song explains that arriving in America, here (refers to the writers current position, you have to mention before that you are at this place) at Ellis Island, one is able to improve his life and earn more money. The author website sings/explains that gold flowed from the river and that there are diamonds on the sidewalks. This shows the (here you are referring to a particular thing hence use of this article) American dream. The author website talks of many nationalities who will journey to America: Black, Irish, Germans and Jews.(here use comma instead of a full-stop) , all believe they will achieve their dream. However this is a myth (better say: this turns into a myth to most of them..because some end up attaining their goal) . The author says that there are some who gave their lives to build the country, such as the buildings or railways. To fulfill their dream, they had to pay twelve dollars to sixty dollars per person, which meant that families had to save in advance. They were often poor and they had a hard life. Once on the boat, immigrants had to pass a physical inspection with a doctor. If they were healthy, it was good. But if they were not healthy, they returned back to their countries (or they were sent back). Sometimes, what was supposed to be an end heuresue to come to America ended in disappointment.
Then (Next..then refers to a later time) I will talk about the poster "Builders & Titans". This is a newspaper published in 1998, showing the 100 most popular people in the twentieth century. On the poster there are five people. There is (referring to a singular person) Henry Ford who is the founder of the Ford Motor Company. He became one of the richest people and most famous in the world. Then there was Walt Disney, who is known as creator of cartoons. He founded in 1923 the company Walt Disney Company and is gradually becoming one of the producers of the most famous films. Walt Disney is also the creator of the first "theme park", inventing the concept. Another character on the poster is Bill Gates, an American entrepreneur, a pioneer in the field of computing. These examples of people are not heroes of the world but the world's icons. They do not have super powers like Superman, but rather a model that everyone would like be.
Great job!
