The colonial history of America begins shortly after the discovery of the New World by Europeans (Christopher Columbus in 1492). The current US territory is quickly becoming an international issue: major Western colonial powers engage in the exploration and conquest of the New World and build vast colonial empires that end up mostly by being absorbed militarily and politically by other empires or become independent vis-à-vis their city after several centuries of domination of the latter on its colonies. The most famous example of this is the independence of the thirteen British colonies that became the United States. They threw themselves in turn in the colonization of the territories of the Wild West (Wild West) and then in uneexpansion overseas (including the expense of Spain).
