Advantages: The child already now which language he needs to use so he can’t mixe the two.
Disadvantages: The children need more time for learn a new language when he grow up, so he can have some difficulty and don’t speak fluently.

When children are at a primary school, they are young and are able to learn a foreign language easier than if they were older. Children are very curious, are very enthusiastic and they enjoy learning new things, so learning a second language would be very fast. However, when children are at primary school, they are also still learning to speak and write in their own native language. As such, they could easily get confused and have difficulties with their own language as they would be spending a lot of time trying to learn a second one.
Furthermore, the teachers at primary schools are general not specialists in any particular subjects, and so they might not be able to teach a child another language in the first place.
In secondary school, the children are older and would find learning a foreign language more difficult - as they would be less curious and enthusiastic. Therefore, some students might find it boring or too difficult to learn an new language, and they might give up.
However, learning another language would not affect their ability to speak and write in their own native language, since by this age they would be more or less fluent in it. Also by this age, the children would be smarter, and some would realise that knowing another language would make them more employable and more likely to succeed in life.
