Exercise 1:

During segregation, colored people and white people lived separately. Black people didn't have the same rights as the whites. They didn't go to the same schools. In some restaurants, they didn't eat in the same room as the whites; in others they ate in the same room. They also used different toilets. They rode the same bus but the whites sat in the front of the bus whereas the colored people sat in the back. They also didn't share the same benches in parks. Segregation was based on the "Separate but Equal" theory but in reality colored people were not treated equally.
