This is a Miami Herald article dated September 17, 1950 and signed Edward Van Winkle, which refers first of unexplained disappearances in the sector4. Two years later, Fate magazine published an article "Sea Mystery at Our Back Door" signed George X., dealing with the disappearance of a squadron of five fighter-bombers December 5, 1945 off the coast of Florida; event known as Flight 195. This is the unexplained disappearance that will actually popularize the myth of the Triangle Bermudes1,6,7 and feed the legends of the secteur7. Yet it would seem that the planes of exercise, lack of navigational elements will simply be lost at sea after the compass instructor pilot, Lt. Charles Taylor fell in panne6.
However, even before the disappearance of Flight 19, disappearances and strange facts had been identified in the area. Columbus had already reported in his time that his compass was deregulated in secteur7,6. In 1918, the USS Cyclops, a coal ship of the US Navy, was lost at sea without a trace, nor Radio7 message. If the mystery was never solved (although it appears that the boat sank into the sea without being able to launch messages secours7) and fed theories or paranormal and supernatural speculation, it is however somewhat sure disappearance has taken place in the geographical area of the Bermuda Triangle, but between Barbados and Baltimore7.
Inspired by previous articles published in the 1950s, the name "Bermuda Triangle" was coined by the American journalist Vincent Gaddis in an article in Argosy magazine in February 1964: "The Deadly Bermuda Triangle".
The reporter from the Los Angeles Times, Howard Rosenberg, published in 1974 a clause 2, estimating that more than 190 ships and 80 planes have disappeared in that area over the previous hundred years, and the US Coast Guard responded to more 8,000 distress calls in the area.
In the 1970s, several books and newspaper articles have been devoted to the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle. Among them, The Bermuda Triangle8 published by Charles Berlitz in 1974, became a bestseller and was the beginning of a series of investigations against and surveys on the subject.
To explain the mysterious disappearances, Olivier Bernier and some authors mention the aliens, the influence of Atlantis.
