Entoure les verbes conjugués

À quel temps ces verbes sont-ils conjugués? au prétérit

Qu'expriment ces verbes?  l'impossibilité ( could not ) et l'obligation ( had to )

Le modal 'must' ne se met pas au prétérit, on doit utiliser son équivalent 'have to' : they had to = Ils devaient .../Ils étaient obligés de ...

Le modal 'can' se met au prétérit, il devient 'could'

They could = ils pouvaient

They couldn't = ils ne pouvaient pas
