The American dream is the fact that people wanted to be part of this dream of liberty and justice for all, of wealth and the pursuit of happiness. People left their native countries for good and sailed to America to try their luck for different reasons :
To seek a better future, more opportunities, social advancement, to make their dream of prosperity ans success come true.
People considered the America to be :
- A land of refuge
- A land of freedom and opportunity
- An open society with no social barriers
- The promised Land
They wished they could find a way out of poverty.
They expected to find week-paid jobs and have higher standard of living.
They would climb up the rungs of social ladder.They believe in rags to riches stories (passer des aillons à la richesse)

I think that the American dream still exists but it is difficult to believe in it. The dream hardly came reality overnight. For many the dream turn into a nightmare while they went through many hardships. In America the rejection of the foreigners exists and persists. ( Apres tu peux rajouter des choses ou s'il y a des choses que tu ne comprends tu me dis )
