American Gothic is Grant Wood's picture(board) being a member(part) of the collection of the Institute of art of Chicago. Wood was inspired by a chalet conceived(designed) in the neo-Gothic style (American gothic house) with a distinctive superior window; and he(it) decided to paint him(it) with " the kind(genre) of people which [he]([it]) imagined to have to live in this house " The picture(board) shows a standing farmer next to his single daughter. The models were the dentist and the sister of Wood. The woman is dressed in a printed colonial apron imitating the American traditional style of the xixe century and the couple is in the traditional roles of the men(people) and the women, the representing fork hard labour and flowers on the right shoulder of the woman suggesting the domestic life.
