In 1984, in Durham in the Yorkshire terrier, mining village of the North-East of England, lives Billy Elliot, 11 years. He lives a modest house with his father Jackie, his big brother Tony, minors in strike and his grandmother. His/her mother died. He follows courses of boxing, but it really does not like that. One day, he learns that he will have to share the room of boxing with girls of his age who take courses of dance. He decides to test and realizes that it is its passion. But his/her father and his brother do not accept his choice, because for them the dance is not virile. He thus takes courses “clandestinely”, with the professor of dance, Mrs Wilkinson, who finds it very gifted. It pushes it to be registered with a competition to enter a prestigious school of ballet to London. This one succeeds in convincing his/her father by showing him his talents. Jackie Elliot joined the workers, giving up the camp of the strikers to be able to pay this school with Billy. He thus agrees to see his son trying to have a better future thanks to the dance, in spite of his prejudices. Billy makes a success of the examination and convinces the jury by explaining what it feels when it dances. About twenty years later, Billy became ballet dancer and one attends his spectacular entrance. His/her father, his brother and his childhood friend Michael.
