I. Myth and Heroes
I am going to talk about the notion of myths and heroes. We can define a myth as a story about gods or heroes. It can be a popular belief, a tradition or a false story. A hero can be a mythological figure, a person who is admired for his or her achievement, a superhero or maybe a role model or an icon. However is the hero an example we have to follow?
Video Mary Quant
Mary Quant is an iconic figure in the history of fashion, she was a creative and imaginative young designer. She had marked the 60’ with a new trend, the famous “mini skirt”, which gave the new generation of women a new look. She set a new trend with the mini skirt and marked a turning point in the history of fashion. In the 60’ she was a young and creative artist who was seeking for something entirely different just as the rest of the young girl did throughout the world. She thought about changing the dress ideas and the outlook on clothes' conception. Her creations conquered the world so she began (preterit!) mass production for mass consumption and then, she exported all around the world. (Twiggy)
Still a man’s world
Rita O’Grady is a symbol (pas besoin d'ajouter icon car c'est un synonyme de symbol) representative of women’s emancipation. She defend women’s rights in the ford factory in order for them to have the same salary. Rita O’Grady can be considered (attention il faut le participe passé) as a heroine because she’s a working woman (singulier!) but she didn't accept men's domination and the injustice toward women. She revolted and went on strike, as we can see in the film. Moreover, she negotiated with the secretary of states and employment, as we can see in the text. Thanks to this woman, the condition of women in Ford's factories improved a lot and even though some inequalities remained, their salary was the same as men's one. => j'ai préféré changé ta phrase entièrement parce qu'elle était maladroite.
II. Locations and Forms of Power
I am going to talk about the notion of locations and forms of power. We can define this notion in political and sociological fields: power is the ability to influence people’s behavior. In order to live together, members of a community have to accept rules, regulations and laws. They help to create social cohesion but can also lead to conflicts and tensions. Even when the authority seems absolute, there are always counter-powers which question it, and aim at limiting its excesses and at resisting it. How the power influence our life condition ?
The real story behind Britain’s rock’n’roll
In the 60’ the rock’n’roll was a big revolution, for example they Rolling Stones. The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) owned the airwaves and didn't broadcast rock and pop music, so pirate radios ø appeared, were on international seas for broadcast rock and pop.
For locations, the BBC broadcast light entertainments, programs for children, diet of news, information… Pirates radios broadcast rock, pop music, it was very close to the audience, as we can see with the radio's nickname “Auntie”. It was very popular since twenty millions Brits listened pirate radio for example "mi amigo", radio Caroline. Pirate radios were on international seas to escape the British authorities. We can say that the BBC used a form of power, because it owned airwaves and nobody was able to broadcast music or anything else aside the BBC. Pirate radios escape BBC's influence and the British laws. In 1967, British government promulgated a law and the off-shore radios stations were legalized.
